Surviving Summer
I have just been informed, for the 14th time, that this season's must have is an A/C. Apparently non-Andhraites are mostly ill-prepared for the scorching summer and shrivel to prune like textures. Meanwhile it is still a bit nippy and I spotted a 'harcore-Puneite-forced to shift-to-Visag' in a thick sweater yesterday. Ahem! The nice thing about the Indian Navy is it is SO convenient - you meet all the flakes in one place. And the nicer thing about Visag is, they are ALWAYS around to entertain you.

The Dead Body Guy
"Help me live my dream....let me play dead." The Dead Body Guy is no wannabe actor - in fact he does not want to act at all. The latest is, he has actually bagged a role quite literally - in a body bag. You gotta love the guy!
There are enough people vying for attention, and if you read about the guys who dropped their pants in a subway somewhere - they will strike again. Their agenda? Cause scenes. My personal favourite - the fake U2 On the Rooftop Concert.
"Did I mention that this whole time we were being filmed in High-Definition Wide Screen for Japanese television?" MUAHAHHAHAHAH! Dunno if it was even better than the real thing but it sure as hell was funnier!

Narina Vs The Alienist
It took a shift from Mumbai to Visag for me to realise the art of living..
Why bother with expecations. Really - not only do you save time (the time spent carefully building/harboring those precious illusions)but hey, you are always pleasantly surprised when things look up.
Take this book I picked up at the library - THE ALIENIST - Caleb Carr. Never heard of the author, the cover and the size (600 pages) looked forbidding and the story set in 19th century England sounded suspiciously like Jack the Ripper. But once I waded through the first chapter it was absolutely kickass!! A definitive must read - this is detection at its best using pure psychology - well before fingerprinting, Social Security Nos, DNA reports and body reconstruction sorta ruined the genre for me.
Then again, I saw the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA...being a CS Lewis fan since I was 8, it was a defining moment. Ah well, yes it was beautifully rendered, hell, Mr. Tulmnus even looked liked the illustration in the book and the ghouls and beasties were awesome! Funnily enough I didn't quite enjoy it. Perhaps because it dragged or maybe it was because Susan was a sod and Peter a wimp. Not to mention teeny Lucy who looked like a squashed adult.
Edmund was the only one who seemed relatively human. Anyhow loved the witch - was it just me or did she look like Cate Blanchett in "Elizabeth' - neat dreadlocks.

Beach Mein
The beachs are AMAZING. This was taken from Dolphin Hill - a naval area near my place - my folks never really digested the fact that Visag aka Visakapataman is pretty. The only thing terrible about this place is the lack of entertainment and the ridiculous road sense the average Andhra-ite possesses. Maybe it's coz the village is still getting used to being a town. People use the road divider as footpaths and amble onto the road when the urge hits 'em. Oh and they DO NOT BUDGE. Thankfully I have experience. Who says Visag Sucks?
When I first announced I am moving to Visag, someone at work asked me, "Which country"..hmm that spoke volumes ...and considering this place is barely marketed and rarely written about - I think I have a muse...a VISAG blog that will put this place in the world map. Well at least India's map and considering they have opened a Big B here, my work might just get easier.
