Cartoons Published in Egypt?!!

A friend of mine came across a very interesting link regarding the cartoons that has the entire Islamic community in a spin. This is posted by a Cairo based Blogger -
"They were actually printed in the Egyptian Newspaper Al Fagr back in October 2005. I repeat, October 2005, during Ramadan, for all the egyptian muslim population to see, and not a single squeak of outrage . Al Fagr isn't a small newspaper either: it has respectable circulation in Egypt, since it's helmed by known Journalist Adel Hamoudah. Looking around in my house I found the copy of the newspaper, so I decided to scan it and present to all of you to see."
Cheers Sandmonkey, I hope this is the real thing - and thanks Nick!

Well, if the cartoons were reprints, how come the Danish paper editors claimed to have "commissioned" them ?The whole timing stinks, including someone who claims to have "a copy lying around the house" .. of a newspaper of October 2005! (I mean, if he remembered and got it off an online archive or something, its OK, but he just *happened* to have one issue lying around?) Also look how a cartoon published in Denmark gains publicity all over.

Its a setup, the mullahs fell for it.

(And paranoids have enemies too, as the saying goes).

Hey ?!! Well here is the deal, yup you are right Jyllands-Posten commissioned the cartoons in Sept 2005 - this was a deliberate move to highlight 'freedom of expression'. Some of the toons were reprinted in French, Norwegian and German papers...and I believe in Jordanian paper too - most of the editors were sacked. It is likely the cartoons were reprinted in an Egyptian newspaper..as for having it around the house..hehe yeah must have taken some looking.

If true, this is a good precedent. Some people have to learn to be more tolerent.

Silence is Golden er...Platinum - cherishing life's platinum moments; every single one of 'em!
